City Councilmember David Howard Appointed to National League of Cities Community and Economic Development Steering Committee

Washington, D.C. – At-Large City Councilmember David Howard has been appointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) 2014 Community and Economic Development Steering Committee. This committee has the lead responsibility for developing NLC federal policy positions on issues involving housing, community and economic development, land use, recreation and parks, historic preservation and international competitiveness. The appointment was announced by NLC President Chris Coleman, mayor, St. Paul, Minn.

“I’m honored to serve on such an important policy-shaping committee”, said Howard. ‘My professional and political careers have been about making communities better. In addition to contributing input on important national policy concerns, I will be exposed to best practices that can be implement here in Charlotte.”

As a member of the committee, Councilmember Howard will play a key role in shaping NLC’s policy positions and advocate on behalf of America’s cities and towns before Congress, with the Administration and at home.

The chair of this year’s Community and Economic Development Committee is Lavonta Williams, councilmember, Wichita, Kan. Serving as this year’s vice chairs are Mike Wojcik, councilmember, Rochester, Minn. and Craig Thurmond, mayor, Broken Arrow, Okla.
